Empowered Community

In the picture are Susan Terranova, Kim Gomes, Tom Shea, and Judge Chandlee Kuhn. We met last Friday to begin the Empowered Community, a non-profit organization whose mission is to bring yoga, meditation, and mindfulness principles to the unserved population. Susan, Kim, Tom, and Chandlee have generously donated their time, expertise, and passion to make this vision a reality.

It has always disturbed me that Empowered Yoga was serving only those who can afford yoga. I mean, let’s keep it real! The average yoga student income in the United States is $75,000 a year. This is the 10% club. What about the other people who really need yoga but can’t afford it?  If I am a real yogi, I am focusing on everyone, not just those who can pay.

Initial Steps:
Create 501C3 non-profit status for Empowered Community.
Create financial base for sustainability.
Hire Executive Directer.
Create office space at Empowered Yoga Wilmington for Executive Directer.
Provide additional training to Empowered Yoga teachers and assistants specific to serving these populations.
Begin programs at three specific locations and grow from there.
Create specific curriculum for each demographic.
Please stay tuned and let me know if you would like to get involved.
